The New eBay Motors Scam

There's a new scam going around, which is a slightly more sophisticated variation of a fake escrow trick.

Scammers post for sale ads in classified services such as Craigslist or AutoTrader, with a too-good-to-be-true price. Here is one example I found: 2005 Honda Accord.

"Email me for more details : brendapharell@ymail.com .The car is in a perfect cosmetic and engine conditions, and meticulously maintained. No damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, never been into accidents and it is as advertised. Email me for more pictures at : brendapharell@ymail.com . I cannot get in touch with you if you use the "Email this Seller" option because my email address on autotrader is full so please e-mail me directly at: brendapharell@ymail.com"
The car is a real car--in the sense that they borrowed some photos and a VIN from somewhere, so if you run it through CarFax it will check out as a real vehicle.

If you respond, they send you a fake invoice from eBay Motors, along with a fake "Vehicle Purchase Protection" service email.

Here are examples, cick for larger view:

It isn't a perfect fake, but it may be convincing to someone who doesn't know much about eBay. The real eBay Motors does not operate an escrow service, and they explicitly don't allow MoneyGram payments! Also note the fake eBay email address, "ebay@support-center-vpp.net".

The scammers want you to send a non-traceable payment (MoneyGram, Western Union) to a "payment agent", who is probably some idiot who signed up for a "work at home" job "processing internet payments". That guy cashes the payment, and forwards it on to the scammers.

I tried to make contact with the scammer, but he was being very careful--he wouldn't give me a phone number. He stopped respoding to my emails after I pointed out that eBay doesn't allow Moneygram payments, and asked if he could take a PayPal payment instead.

Update: I am starting to see reports of this scam spreading out into Canada and the UK, using other services such as Moneybookers. The rules are the same. If the price is too good to be true (way below market) or the guy wants you to buy a car without being able to look at it, it's not real.

Thanks for the info, please reconfirm that you are a serious buyer, you have the money and you will buy it, if the
vehicle is what you have expected. I will open the transaction, and you should get the invoice tomorrow via email (please
check your bulk folder if you have a spam blocker in your email), they will send it via email. You should be confident
about this sale because eBay Motors will supervise the transaction.
Once eBay confirm your payment, the shipping will be started in the next 24 hours.
I want to let you know, that the title is already
signed by me, you need only to complete it with you name and address.
The title, manuals, bill of sale and service records will be shipped with the vehicle.

Thanks
Maria Roland

Because I've moved here in Spain and I can't close the deal face to face, I will deal only trough eBay Motors
Spain. I need the following details from you so I can open the case with eBay (Full Name, Full Shipping Address,
Phone number) and they will contact you with further details. You will have to make the payment to eBay Motors
(they will use an eBay Agent to receive the funds), eBay Motors will confirm it and the shipping will be started.
You will receive the vehicle in 3-4 days(including all the papers signed by me). You will have 14 days for inspection
from the moment the vehicle arrives before you confirm the deal and eBay will forward me the money or you can
cancel the deal is the vehicle is not as I have advertised it and eBay will give you a full refund.
In case of a refund, the vehicle will be returned free of charge. It is not a sight unseen deal. I can ship it
knowing that you are a serious buyer and you have enough time to test and inspect it. We are both covered.
Sorry for the long email I have tried to explain the entire process.

Thanks
Maria Roland

Let me know if you are still interested and I'll explain you more about the deal.

Hey to everyone out there BEWARE, IF IT IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT IS.. We have just been scammed out of 4200 bucks. We were buying a truck from Rebecca Logan rebeccalosweet@aol.com, through an ebay agent named David Lambert. We had no idea that they could do something like this. Something needs to be done to stop this.. We didnt know till just now that ebay takes no money through western union and that is how we sent it. Is there any way for us to get our money back? So i just say again, Watch out anyone that tries to claim they will do it through ebay dont do it, no matter how proffesional that it looks. Can someone give some help on where to start to track this stuff..

Hello,
Thank you for contacted for my car:2005 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER HSE wich is posted for sale. The car is accurate, corosion free, no scratches, no damage of any kind, was properly serviced and stored, all the manuals and the original documents, only 59,000 km,never been involved in any accident. The car is always garaged and rarely used, is registered in Canada and it has clear title. The problem is that I had to move with my family in United States where I got a new job transfer (i work as a doctor). I brought the car here with me with the intention of driving it but when I found out about the very high import duties and all the restrictions regarding registration and emissions tests here I've changed my mind and I've decided to sell the vehicle.I want to sell it in Canada because is still registered there.Total price with shipping included is $14,300CAD!I know the price is cheaper then normal on the market but I want to sell the car faster then usually and I assume that a lower price will be a good solution. I hope there won't be any argue for the price as this is my bottom .I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by eBay Motors Shipping Company,in this way both of us will be protected! If you are still interested please contact me back so we can start the deal.
Thank you and have a great day.

I was scammed in July 2007 & my story seems to be similar to others on here. It took two years but I finally got the 'receiver' of my $8,500 before a judge & she is serving time in jail in LA County CA. The 'smoke screened' story used the name of Reid Hudson (a soldier) blah blah blah... I just read a post from * Chris 4:12 am * - he made reference to same bogis name, so are cases are related!!! A lady in Ohio fell victim to similar story, her money went just 10 minutes away from mine, also southern LA. We both have individually collected documents etc.. Her's involve other victims & the women that took her money provided her with much evidence. She has enough info to put her behind bars 'if' the DA will take it on, as they did mine! 'SO' How can I link up with other victims on here ??? Maybe then, the FBI or Secret Service will open an investigation (or I can join in on one?), if we add up our losses as a group. I'd like to compare notes & offer help to victims & one day bring down this network of scammers!

Your Post saved me from making a big mistake. I knew it sounded to good to be true. They were selling a 2000 Jeep for $2700. They wanted the payment sent via Western Union to an address in Ft lauderdale.

Is there a way to report the names used?

Good thing I found this website.

I was looking in craigslist and saw a car that was way too cheap, an Acura TL, I saw that many people were sent the message for the same car, damn stupid terrorists. well i sent them a message, buy the way e-mail was ptrfaison@gmail.com, and their reply was this.

Hello,

I'm SGT Peter Faison. This 2006 Acura TL is in perfect working condition.
This vehicle engine runs very, very smooth. No electrical or
mechanical problems on this beauty. This detailed vehicle makes the
exterior looks like it just came off the assembly line. The car has
43,000 miles.

As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal
closed only through eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for you
to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will
hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the
car and you inspect it (for 15 days) eBay will send the money to me; in
this way we are both protected. If the car is not suitable for you
from any reason, your money will be fully refundable and I will take
the car back on my expenses. I'm sure it won't be the case because it's a state of
art looking and working vehicle. I am located in Canada and I was sent
here with my department. One week ago my wife moved here with me and
brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the
US because we can't register it here; it has US specs and
everything, and registering it here in Canada will take forever. My
final price on it is $2,700 USD. If you will take it for this price, I
am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by
plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You
will get it to your address.

Check this link for more pics & info about the car (copy and paste it in your web browser):
2006acuratl.page.tl

Please get back to me asap if you want to move forward, and include in
your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I
can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction,
payment and shipping details from them.

Best Regards,
Peter and Laura Faison

I was really enthusiastic about it until i texted my brother. Right off the bat he told me it was a freakin scam. I was like "well it's through ebay's protection program". He still thought there was something really flaky about it especially when i told him it was in canada, his response "There's your Motherf@#!ng driving test!" Thank god for smart bro!

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm in Scotland (United Kingdom) right now and I have been very busy. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying the 2006 Toyota Solara Sport Convertible .The car is located in United States right now. Why is the price so low?I am going trough a divorce, and I had to move out of USA.So all that I want to do now is to sell the car at this price, because I need to sell it fast. The title is clean. The car has 47,438 miles. It is in immaculate condition, rust free, no scratch at all and hasn't been involved in any accident. The motor runs very well. The interior looks great. This car needs nothing. I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time to my disposal. I already have tones of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out. The price is $3,600.00. THIS IS MY LAST PRICE.I will not negotiate the price. Hello,

I am sorry but the pick up and the test drive are not available because I am not in the country. As I told you in my first e-mail, I am in United Kingdom. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence isn't necessary. The car is in United States at DAS Shipping Department, ready to be delivered. The shipping cost is included in the total price of the car! You have 5 days to test it and inspect the car.So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:
full name and address,shipping address,phone #
After I will have all this details I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will proceed the order. eBay Motors will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that I am covered by them and that I am legit seller. The following are emails from a scammer (jeangekkun@hotmail.com),that I received, while selling a $40K F-35 for $4K, January 24, 2010 (Watch Out!):

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in my 2009 FORD F-350, I need to tell you that the truck is in excellent condition, never raced or abused, no accidents and no smoke inside, no liens or loans, it was very well maintained. The truck is e-tested and certified, runs like new and all services are up to date.
I must sell because I just moved to London, U.K with my work and I can't drive it here because registration and changing the steering wheel on the right side will cost a lot of money so it's easier to sell.
Please e-mail me back if you're really interested.
In search of a good collaboration.

I forwarded your details to eBay and they will contact you with more details about shipping, protection program and payment. Please read carefully the invoice so this can go on well.
I`ll wait your email with updates.
Thank you in advance.

Is it really a 2009 model F-350 for $3,800.00, with 6070 miles.
As i've told you in my previous email i'm in UK and the truck is at the shipping company in Quebec because before i leave the country i visited some friends there and i left the truck at the shipping company. Also i must tell you that shipping and insurance is included in the price of the truck.
I would like to let you know that for the safety of this transaction and for things to go on well, i want to use in this deal the protection and help of eBay Purchase Protection service.
If you are not familiar with this service i'll explain how it works. We agree on the price, you agree on buying, you make the payment to eBay, they hold the money until you receive, test and inspect the truck (you will have 15 days to do that) and after you agree to keep the truck i will receive the money. If for any reason you don't like the truck which i'm shore it won't be the case, you will get a full refund and the truck will remain at the shipping company.
If you agree with this procedure all i need from you is your full name and your full address, for title transfer and your shipping address, this will be the address were you wish to receive the truck. I will also need an e-mail address where eBay can contact you and a phone number. I'm requesting all this, so i can be able to open a transaction record at eBay Safe Harbor and they will send you an invoice with all the details about the payment, shipping and Protection service.

P.S. Once i receive your full name and address we can start talking on the phone too, right now i have too many potential buyers and i can`t talk with all of them,i hope you understand.

I forwarded your details to eBay and they will contact you with more details about shipping, protection program and payment. Please read carefully the invoice so this can go on well.
I`ll wait your email with updates.
Thank you in advance.

Currently emailing this person at clarasvenson@gmail.com and this is the latest email i recieved after replying to a craigslist ad.

I would like to let you know that this Jeep is priced at: $2900
I also like to tell you that I'm not selling this vehicle for profit or due to a lack of money. The reason for selling is that some recent events in my life made me change my perception of certain things that I considered important in the past. The funds received after this sale will be directed towards charity. Right now I'm traveling with UNICEF as a volunteer.
On the other hand, you shall know few things about the Jeep. The title is clear and is in an excellent condition without any dents or scratches. It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time as well as the oil changes. The Jeep was never involved in any accidents or flood damage. The motor never let me down, look great and run smoothly.
I'm not trying to offend you, but if you intend to apply for a loan or financing, please don't go any further because the Jeep is priced for a fast sale, and I require a cash transaction. The process will be managed by eBay Company and the transaction will be made only through their eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection plan for the safety of both. If you are still interested and ready to agree with my terms, please reply so I can forward you the detailed description of the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Plan.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Thank you,
Clara

Thanks people for this blog. I am a first time buyer on e-Bay and almost got taken. It was about a 2004 John Deere tractor (with accessories) I saw on craigslist for $7,700.00. I asked them if I could see it and she said that it was all crated up and sitting on the dock in Oregon. I said that a set-up like she was describing would cost at least $18,000.00. She avoided the question. There were a few differences. They wanted me to wire transfere to a bank and gave me the routing #'s. I asked if I could use Pay-pal but they said that they don,t use it, only wire transfere. Thank you all very much. Signed: Almost

It looks like it is now Larry Gaffaney, in the military and from NJ

I'M GLAD I SEARCHED FOR AUTO SCAMS!!!

The 2004 Honda Accord is located in Edgewater, NJ and is still
available. It is in perfect condition, no need for any repairs, no
scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. It has 76,194 miles and the
VIN is: 1HGCM66524A089384. It has a clear title ready to be signed and
notarized on your name. I have the pictures hosted on the net and you
can see them at : http://s905.photobucket.com/home/2004-Honda-Accord/index
The price I'm asking is $2,880 including shipping costs anywhere in the
continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction.
The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we
will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so
I decided to use a service from eBay Motors. To begin the transaction I
just need your consent and a clear decision if you want to buy this or
not and then I will be able to get this started. After that you will
receive a self explanatory invoice from eBay Motors that will tell you
all the details you need to know about our transaction and also will
give you the choice to proceed or not with the deal so basically you can
decide then if you want to buy or not my car by simply answering to
them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you
will have 5 days for inspection.
I will be leaving the country with my work for a very long time and I
simply don't want to leave the car to rust for nothing. I'm not looking
to get rich selling it as I, myself got it for a nice price due to some
favorable circumstances. Right now I just want to find a serious buyer
for it that will drive it and care for it at least half the way I did.
Please get back to me if you are serious about this and we will make
this happen. Also feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this.

Best regards,
Larry Gaffaney

Hi again ,

Here is the VIN# 1j4g248n4yc315226. The car is located in Smyrna, TN , we will use eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection, so we can both be protected and insured. I just need your full name and full address so eBay can send you the invoice in which you'll see how to make this transaction. I supposed to ship the car to another buyer, then he told me that he found another vehicle so is no longer interested. He already paid the shipping charges, the shipping is paid . I am just waiting your full name and address to complete the shipping papers and start the delivery process.

Here are some more pics: http://img203.imageshack.us/g/55029500.jpg/

Just came across a 1993 supra which is at least a $20,000 car, guy said it was $4500 in "MINT" condition lol. And just like clockwork i got two ebay motors invoices, definitely pays to look into these things first:)

i recently found a 2005 toyota corolla le sedan sith 36000 miles for $2900 posted on craigslist. I am new to the internet and ALMOST GOT SCAMMED! The e-mail address of that dirty #@$#@$& is: lisa64b@gmail.com BEWARE OR BE BROKE!

I am currently looking for a vehicle and ran into two of these on craigslist. In both cases, we asked the person to call us and gave our phone #. Instead they responded via e-mail with additional details about the car and told us to e-mail them if interested. In both cases the car was in a different state--even though I was looking at the local craigslist.

My son is 19 and coming home from Iraq in 6 weeks. He bought a car and called home and ask me to western union 2900 to some bag in Miami, Fl. I was against it but he insisted that he had ebay buyers protection. He forwarded the "invoice" to me and I sent the money. When he tried to contact the seller, it was ficticious. I did some calling around to find out that it is a scam and my son just lost out on 2 months pay. I contacted Ebay who verified it wasnt their invoice. I called Western Union who filed a fraud claim, which will sit in a box with everyone else who got screwed. I called my local news station and submitted a story on this. Its sad that my son who is in Iraq, tried to buy his first car and became a victim of such a scam. I will push the issue with everyone who will listen because there is a lot of money being stolen from good honest hardworking people.

thanks a lot for such a good information.
This scam preys on people who are willing to buy a car sight unseen, which can be risky and dangerous some time as well.
keep tell us more about such frauds so that we get aware.....

i gave a scam my name, address and phone number. i don't know what that idiot will do with my details. after i sent my details, i search and see this blog. it helps me to get out from hell. i checked my email, i saw email with invoice from ebay@cgi-ebay-protection.net. the interesting part is, the exact car was put for bidding on ebay and ended on 7th march. i hope the one won the bid will read this post.

here is another story of scam.
==========================
Hi, my name is Antonia. As mentioned in the ad the car belongs to my grandmother and is being sold because she can no longer drive it due to her health condition. I live in the United Kingdom(London) and took grandma to stay with me until she's better. The car is still in Australia at a shipping company's warehouse ready to be shipped anywhere in Australia. The final price is 3900 Australian Dollars and it includes shipping fees anywhere in Australia.
The car is in perfect condition, barely driven and kept in the garrage at all time. It's well maintained and never been involved in any accidents. If you're seriously interested in buying the car email me back so we can get things started.

some Kelly Peterson is selling a 2004 Mazda RX-8 GT with 66k miles for 2900. Most of what she said looks almost identical to what was posted by most of you. She said the car is in Indiana. I wonder what she would say if i told her i live in indiana? i am going to use my girl friends email and try to see what she says to her. I want to see if she changes her story. Can you scam the scammer? that would be halarious.

you dont know who to trust. i actually fell for a scam. they were selling a 350z for only 1200 with 23000 miles. i knew it was too good to be true but i have this body kit for it that my friend gave me. so i decided to work extra shifts for 2 weeks. (im a waitress in Don Pepe in newark nj) i actually made 2300 in tips. and plus 450. so it was a pretty good week. so i had the extra cash to buy it. after going through the ebay process, i did not receive the car. i was upset at first but i still had 1550 from that week so it was ok. And unexpectly after 2months after the purchase, the car came!!!!!!!!! i was soo excited! it was everything the ad promised. so if you think you got scammed, theres still hope!!!

I almost fell for it too.

I saw a nice 2004 Audi A4 on Auto Trader and called the number listed, but I recieved a automoated voice response that said "The Magic Jack customer you are trying to reach is no longer avaliable. To sign up for your own Magic Jack press 1..."

I should have known better right then.

But I gave the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe the numbers were transposed or something. I emailed the seller the following:

"Hello. I am interested in this vehicle and tried to give you a call with no luck. I was wondering if you could send more pics of the car as there seems to be a difference in the pics. And is the price correct at 4,400? Please contact me asap. Thanks"

To which an Alan Higher replied:

The car is still available. It has a clear title, it doesn't have any scratches, dents, it never been involved in an accident. The car is in great shape, no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. It was always garaged and never smoked in. It is located in Chicago , Illinois , and in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. I'm selling this car because I travel a lot with my job and I don't want it get old in my garage so there's no use on keeping it. Yes, the pictures are made in two different days with two set of rims. Would this be a problem?
The price is so low ($4,400.00) because I need to sell it before March 27
If you are a serious buyer please contact me as soon as possible.

Thank you!

Here are some specs:

blah blah blah

Me: So the $4,400 is included in the price to ship the car, correct? I am in Toledo, Ohio and would like to contact you via phone regarding purchase, however the number provided on auto trader did not go through. Is there another number where I can reach you? Thanks!

Him: Yes, $4,400 includes the shipping too.
Unfortunately I have some problems with my personal phone. If you send
my your name and address i can ask eBay to send you the details of
this transaction.

Me: (thinking: "wait a second...")
Would you be opposed to me coming to pick the car up?

Him:No, but I'm in Los Angeles and the car is at the shipping company already.
I will ship the car with DAS( Dependable Auto Shippers ). I think I
can have it at your address in 4-5 working days. I will take care of
the shipping charges as I told you in my first email. The car is
already in the container, sealed and ready for shipping. You will
receive the car with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of
sale, user’s manual, insurance etc). I am a member of the eBay buyer
protection program and using this service you will get a 3 days
testing period after delivery.
Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will
confirm your decision to eBay and only then they will re-route the
money to me.
I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the
details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email
your contact. (< giving the shipping and payment information.
I immediately called eBay and they informed me that they would never send an email from a .net address and they won't hold funds for any reason. I decided that this was obviously a scam and did not contact the man again. He emails me back in the evening asking me if ebay contacted me. I let him know that I called eBay myself and told him what they told me. He says that is "impossible" and that he just talked to an agent 5 minutes before and that I must have dialed the wrong number. (yeah right). So, I asked him what number he called. He has yet to get back with me...

....and I thought his phone was not working.

Beware everyone!!

Beware of a Katharine Newton...

She also had a similar story with a Nissan Altima for $2690.
I was a little uneasy with the deal through ebay so I contacted them and they said that it was a scam and that they never send emails from those @vpp.com...

She claimed that she was divorced and that she dont have a driver's license. I asked to see the car and I got the message on how the process will work. Then she said she cant meet up because she going out of town.. but she told me that she's busy with work... smh... BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS.

P.S Do any one notice that they all have female names? I have not yet see a man name from these emails. Something else to look at.

I got this email. Man I really wanted that car at that price. Too bad I gave him my home address and name before I figured he is a scum.

And his email is James W [james@connectthewilliams.com]

Hi again,

Please tell me the best time to call you...
If you are interested in buying the vehicle you have to know that once you receive it you have 3 days to test drive it and inspect it and if you find that it is not like I said, you can send it back on my expense...but I'm sure that won't be the case...After starting up the transaction through MSN Autos, your funds will stay in a safe account until the end of the deal, when depending on your decision to keep or not to keep the vehicle, the funds will be released to me or back to you.
The car will come with all the documents and papers, including the title and a bill of sale signed by me.
Here is how the transaction works:
You make the payment to MSN Autos through bank transfer.
After they've confirmed the payment they will instruct me to start the shipping procedures.
Once you are in possession of the vehicle and verified that everything is in order, you have to confirm that you've received it. Only then, MSN Autos will send me the money. I will not receive any money before you will receive, inspect and decide to keep the vehicle.
In order to begin the deal, I'll need your full name, shipping address and your phone # for starting the transaction.

Best regards,
James W

I just had the same experience with a BMW 330ix year 2006 for $4,400.00 nice deal!

I spoke this morning with eBay and they specifically encourage people not to use MoneyGram or similar services.

Take in consideration that it is important that the purchase you made, has to be reflected on "My eBay"

Another important thing is that it needs to have an Item Number, which in this scams, doesn't have.

Please also review the extension from where the links come from, ebay just have the extension ebay.com.

The linked I received had the following extension:

ebaymotors.com.xz-34-ww-ab.com/include

Which means that the actual website is: xz-34-ww-ab.com

The way that it works on the websites is that you can put any address before the website address, but not after it.

For instance if you receive an email from eBay, it can be ebaymotors.ebay.com, but not the other way around.

Following I am copying the email received in response to my concern from eBay, you can write them at spoof@ebay.com

"Hello, I'm Sgt. David Walcot.
This Highlander is in perfect working condition. This vehicle engine runs very very smooth. No electrical problems on this beauty.. This detailed vehicle makes the exterior looks like it just came off the assembly line. The car has 48,300 miles on it.
As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBays's Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to ebay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it(for 15 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. I am located in Budapest, Hungary and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between USA and Hungary . One month ago, my wife Jannet moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the US because we can't register it here, it has US specs and everything, and registering it here in Europe will take for ever. My price on it is US 6,500 $.
If we reach an agreement, I am willing to take care of the shipping to your address. Shipping will take 10 days maximum. I have managed to obtain a low cost shipping, only $600 and I presume it would be fair to split the shipping cost so, we'll pay $300 each. Meaning, that the car and the shipping/handling will cost you $6,800. I think this is reasonable.
Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.

Thank you"

i saw this after looking up the ebay motors scam...after i received this email...

Hello, I'm Sgt.Jackson
What can I tell you in a few words is that I am an individual seller, I am not a dealer and this is my first type of auction. I have a 2008 BMW 335i for sale. The car is in great condition it has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects period, it's in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained. The paint is flawless and the exterior is immaculate. I am a non-smoker and my BMW has never been smoked in.
The engine (6 Cylinder 3.0 Liter Turbo) is strong and the transmission (automatic) is crisp and smooth. The tires are in great condition and the brakes work well.
Also the interior is immaculate, the seats, and headliner are in great condition, reflecting the low mileage. The car has 33,748 original miles.
This is a beautiful car...
The location of the car is South Carolina. My price on it is $10,000.00
As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the vehicle. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it(for 15 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. Currently I was deployed in Manchester, United Kingdom and I will be here for the next two years.
If we reach an agreement, I am willing to take care of the shipping to your address. Shipping will take one week maximum. I have managed to obtain a low cost shipping, only $1000 and I presume it would be fair to split the shipping cost so, we'll pay $500 each. Meaning, that the vehicle and the shipping/handling will cost you $10,500.00 I think this is reasonable.
Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and shipping address so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
Regards,
Peter Jackson

Hello,
Sorry for this late reply, the car is still for sale. My name is Diane Pecot and I am the legal owner of this 2000 Toyota Camry Solara.I would like to tell you that the car is in perfect condition, no accidents, never wrecked, non-smoker, great conditions, clear title. I have all the documents and service records.
The engine, drive train, equipment are all in proper working order. The ride is smooth, there are no shakes or pulls in the steering. it has only 95,951 miles and is in excellent running condition.
I am located in Madrid,Spain and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between our country and Spain but I stored the vehicle in to a shipping company warehouse from New York before leaving US.
I posted the car for sale all over the US (nation-wide ad), so you may see it at another location.
I am in possession of this Camry, from my former husband, as he lost it in
our divorce settlement. I do not want to keep it because will be very expensive to ship it from US to Spain and I already made a deposit to buy a convertible here.
I hope the vehicle location has no negative effect on you because shipment is included in the vehicle price ($3,000.00) and will cost you nothing more. Regarding the car transport, will use a reputable shipping company. I've shipped several times with them and have established trust - the car is transported inside and therefore completely protected, It is insured in case of damage and it takes 3-5 days to be delivered at your door.
About the payment, because my current situation is pretty special, for your safety I want the deal closed only through eBay Motors Buyer Protection Program.
If we use the eBay BPP services you will have an 7 days inspection period prior buying the car.
In this way you have the chance to inspect the car before pay me, and I will be comfortable when I'll ship you the car.
Let me know if you want to move forward, in order to open the transaction with eBay
I will need your shipping address in the following format:
Receiver Name-
Street Address-
City, State, Zip Code,
to forward it to the authorized personnel from eBay to start the transaction so you can buy the car from me.
Thank you and have a nice day,

Hey,
I need the following details from you (Full Name, Full Shipping Address, Phone number) so, I can open the case with eBay.
After this, eBay will send you the notification (invoice) shortly after that via email, with all the instructions.
You will have to make a deposit to eBay Motors, once they will confirm it and the shipping will be started in the next 24 hours.
You will receive the vehicle in 4-5 days (including all the papers signed by me). You will have 7 days for inspection from the moment the vehicle arrives before you confirm the deal and eBay will forward me the money or you can cancel the deal is the vehicle is not as I have advertised it and eBay will give you a full refund.
In case of a refund, the vehicle will be returned free of charge. It is not a sight unseen deal. I can ship it knowing that you are a serious buyer and you have enough time to test and inspect it. We are both covered.
Sorry for the long email I have tried to explain the entire process.
Thanks,
Lt. Diane Pecot

I got the same 'divorced and moved to Spain' sob story.

I'd really appreciate if if someone could tell me if this is a scam and if it is, how does it work?

I've seen two different cars relisted on eBay. Here's the scoop:

One car was listed (see email below) and then it had a winning bidder. And then right after that auction ended, it was relisted again and it had another winning bidder. And a couple months later, it's still for sale but not on eBay. I found it through Craigslist. All I can figure, if it's legit then there were 2 drop-out bidders, which seem like strange odds. And I'm curious why the seller didn't just go to the other bidders and do a second chance offer.

Now, again, another car was listed and it had a winning bidder. Not only that, but the winning bidder and the seller both left positive feedback for each other. Then right after the auction ended, it's relisted and gets another winning bidder; and again, both the buyer and seller leave positive feedback for each other. And now it's for sale a third time a couple of months later. How could a car have two winning bidders, two sets of positive feedback, and now be for sale again? I just don't see the likelihood of two buyers returning a car.

And now I'm the highest bidder on this car's third auction. I, unfortunately, discovered the car was the same one after I placed a bid. I have sent an email to the seller asking about these three auctions and if I don't get a reply, I can retract my bid due to non-communication.

So does anyone have any idea what's going on with this relisting thing? Thanks!

Also, I saw quite a few comments here with the emails you've received and it's eerily similar to one I got about the first car I mentioned above. After I got her email and she mentioned eBay, I went looking for it there and I found it from a couple of months ago. And it's also too good to be true. This is a $20,000 car. And I notice all these emails have a sob story too. This is what the text said:

Hi,

Thank you for being interested in buying my 2009 Volkswagen New Beetle S, 6,700 miles, Transmission: Automatic, VIN: 3VWRF31Y29M403397.
It is in EXCELLENT condition; the body and paint are great, no scratches and no dents; the interior is clean; it has never been involved in an accident; comes with all the documents needed for registration and clear title.
My final price on it is US $4,190. It is priced to sell fast !
My husband died one month ago and I decided to move closer to my parents(they are very old) in Canada and the car is here with me. As I am unable to travel in the near future and having no one to help me with the sale I decided to make this transaction through eBay. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.
So don't get me wrong and don't take it personally but I would prefer to secure the deal through eBay. Also because the car will be shipped from Canada to US I prefer to work with a third party in order to keep the both of us safe in this deal. I will be assured you will buy the car and you will be assured that you will receive it! Basically the money will be sent to them and they will keep the money until you receive the car and only after you inspect and drive it they will forward the money to me.

If you have other questions feel free to email.
Thank you!
Gloria Murphy

When I emailed her back that I wanted to come and buy the car in person, I never heard back!

The question I have is, I don't think eBay holds funds, do they? That's what all these emails keep saying. I clearly read on eBay that they don't have an escrow program.

Anonymous said...

Hey again, I just posted a long comment. I just now finished reading all 258 comments and I had to add that I can't believe the similarity in the emails. I hope everyone reads this blog post before giving anyone any money. I'll be OK because I'm old-fashioned and I will not do a car purchase unless it's all handled in person. To all the folks out there who lost money, you've got my sympathy. That would be a horrible thing to Have happen. I can't imagine losing that much money. There were a lot of posts wondering about what we can do. I have that same question. If anyone has more info on how to get this stopped, please let us know.

I figured out the relisting scam on eBay. I emailed the "previous buyers" and this was their responses:

The first buyer:

Good Morning!!! well yes I went to get it. That guy is a jerk, when I got there the "car" was not like he had listed it.He made me put good feedback to get my money back..grrr SO long story short dont get it!!!!

The second buyer:

I did win the bid. I drove up to Ar. and the car was as described, it just was not completely described. The outside looked good, but the inside did not. He did not misrepresent the car, he just did not fully represent it. The description he gave left me with a different picture than the actual car. He was supposed to refund some of the $500.00 deposit back into my pay pal. I have yet to see it appear.

So folks, when you find a car you like, search for it, and make sure it hasn't been bought before.

Watch out for eBay seller: 1691sandra

And email address: gloria.murphy@msn.com

Take care, everyone!

Wow another jeep for cheap. ($2940) I don't think Miss Cooper will be getting any of my money. Somehow by fate I was checking this site while I was talking to my bank.

Reported to craigslist and ad was removed within 30 minutes.

Hello,

The car is located in Gambrills, MD and I am selling it at this price ($2940) because i just finished the divorce
with my husband. The divorce is finished and I own this car. I work as a dealer on a cruise ship and i want to
sell it because I need money for other things. This car is in excellent working condition, no scratches, flaws or
any kind of damage, slightly used, in 100% working and looking conditions and comes with a clear title ready for
transfer. From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay, I prefer the payment
to be done using eBay services. Since i am working most of my time, and divorced I want the deal closed only through
eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for me and you to be 100% protected. The final price that I want for this
car is $2940. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. Please get back to me asap
if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start
the deal with eBay. You will receive payment and shipping details from them.
I will wait your answer very soon only if you are interested to buy because i don't have any free time to waste.
Best Regards,
Amanda Cooper

Here are two emails I received just today. Are there ANY honest people out there? Not sure how to go about buying a car without getting hosed at the dealership or getting hosed online. Ugh...
Hi there,
How are you doing today? Hope all is well,,,
I apologize for the delay, I'm in the military and now I am deployed in the United Kingdom with the US Marines and that's why I couldn't reply in time. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying the car. Why is the price so low? I am selling it because I am here in UK with my work, and my regiment will be deployed in three weeks in Iraq and I think I'll stay there for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap, ... $3,500 shipping and handling included.
I intend to buy a new car when I'll get back home. So all that I want to do now is to sell it at this price, because I need to sell it fast. The car is located at my division's HQ in Florida, the car is in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. The interior looks great. It is ready to be signed and notarized on your name .
I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions.
I'm very busy so it's easier to sell on the internet and using a eBay shipping company is safer.

HERE PHOTOS http://img24.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=99843287.jpg
P.S So if you are interested please email me back , all i need from you is your full name and your full address, for the title transfer and your shipping address, this will be the address were you wish to receive the car.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

I'm from Ottawa Ont. Canada,

This is from autotrader regarding a Harley Davidson
The first response was this:

Hi again,
I am glad that you are really interested in my bike.
As I allready said in my first email the bike is currently located in United States(Las Vegas,Nevada) but still registered in Canada, so you won't have to pay any custom fees. For a major safety and insurance for this transaction we will use a eBay Motors Shipping Company which also manages the payment. Here's how it works:
-You will give me your full name, address and phone number
-I will open the case id to the eBay Motors company
-You will need send 35%from price to eBay Motors Company
-You will received along whit the bike the bill of sale and the bill of lading, title and keys
- You will have 7 days to inspect the bike, if you will lake the bike , you will keep if not you will received the money back all the money and the bike will be ship back in the same day. After you receive this info, you will have to make the payment to one of their agents so I can be sure that you are serious about buying and I am not shipping the bike for nothing. The agent will keep the money in a trust fund until you receive the bike and are satisfied with it.If the bike is not exactly as described, you can send it back at my expense, and get a full refund of your payment. If everything checks out and you decide to keep it, you will pay the rest of the money to the eBay Motors company. If you wish to go on, please mail me back with your full name, phone number and shipping address so I can open the deal .I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible. Also, feel free to ask me any question you may have

After we asked for more pics, vin # and where it was registered and that we are set up with pay pal, this is the next response:

Hi again,
I am glad that you are really interested in my bike.
Also, feel free to ask me any question you may have
Thank you for the great day

Reply that was sent today about a Volkswagon Toureg V10......

It is currently listed on Autotrader.ca

Hello,
Thank you for contacted for my car: 2006 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG V10 TDI wich is posted for sale. The car is accurate, corosion free, no scratches, no damage of any kind, was properly serviced and stored, all the manuals and the original documents, only 58,000 km,never been involved in any accident.

I just got this e-mail in a response I had sent via craigslist. A 2005 Honda Odyssey for 5,500... TGTBT... sadly :(

Hello,

Thank you for being interested in buying my honda odyssey, 83,000 miles, VIN: 5FNRL387X5B089036.
First of all I would like to tell you that I recently moved in Canada, my husband died one month ago and I decided to move closer to my parents(they are very old).
I have no use for car the anymore so I have to sell it below the market value because the registration fee to use it in Canada is expensive. The full price is $5,500.00 US dollars with shipping included to your location. As I am unable to travel in the near future and having no one to help me with the sale I decided to make this transaction through eBay. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.
I have a clean title ready to be signed. The vehicle has no electrical or mechanical problems, never been involved in any kind of accidents.
If you have other questions feel free to email.
Thank you!
Lisa

I almost got popped for this as well
the email went like this

The car is already at the shipping company in CO,Denver (i just moved here with my new job) sealed and ready for the shipping. My time is limited and as much as I'd like to meet you and close the deal in person or sell it locally, this is impossible for me. That's why I have decided to sell the car over the Internet. According with the eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
I will briefly describe the eBay Buyer Protection Program transaction steps so I can make things clear for both of us:

1. Buyer and seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions)
2. Buyer sends money to an eBay Motors Agent.
3. eBay Motors confirm to seller that the amount has been received.
4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance).
5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay Motors about the acceptance.
6. eBay Motors release the money to seller.

They will hold and insure your money until you will receive and test the car.

I need your full name and shipping address so I can reserve the car for you and register the transaction with eBay and they will contact you with all the instructions step by step on how to complete the transaction.

Thank you

her name was Rebecca Simcoe

DONT belive it

WOW I am so glad that I checked this out before sending 2,000.00 via Western Union to this "agent" from Ebay. He said the price was so low because he was going back to Afganistan for the army, and needed to get rid of his car and posted it on craigslist.I knew it was a scam because the fucker would'nt give me his number and lowered the price right away when I said I could send him the money. People need to not rush into things and check "too good to be true" listings more carefully!

Hi,
I was looking for an Audi, BMW or Benz and came across a 2008 BMW M6 Convertible for less than $13k. Seller's phone number was actually a fax line. I had a feeling that this is a scam but I still wanted to get some proof from these guys and here we go, I got below email. Now I can report him to authorities and law enforcement. :-)

I hope they catch these guys. Thanks God for this and similar blogs to help us identify fraud and spread the word.

Subject: RE: AutoTrader.com Alert - Someone is interested in your 2008 BMW M6 for sale on AutoTrader.com

Hi there,

First of all, please let me introduce myself. It's always nice when you can know the person you are dealing with. My name is Thomas Chief.
Sorry for the late response; something came up and I had to leave urgently. I wanted to let you know that my 2008 BMW M6 Convertible is still available and looks like new with only 7,779 miles on board. I had a buyer offering $12,571 but his loan didn't get approved. I can say that it does not drip, leak, lean, smoke, pull to one side, vibrate, or make funny noises and on top of everything it's a non smoker car. The car is in great condition inside, outside and mechanically. It has never been in ANY wreck, has never hit a curb, was never hit while parked, the alignment is perfect, it tracks smooth at any speed. There is no previous collision damage to this vehicle. The interior of the car is free of cracks, rips, tears or any other damage. The vehicle's undercarriage is free of rust, leaks, or mechanical damage. The vehicle's electric is working perfectly. So I'm willing to let it go for $12,571.

I will make this deal only through eBay Motors due to the fact that I travel almost all the time with my job. Before leaving I prearranged shipping with eBay Motors and Dependable Auto Shippers so my presence isn't necessary. As I explained, my buyer changed his mind after I have made the arrangements to ship the car; The trucking company would not refund me but they can ship my car to anywhere within continental US (NOT Canada). Hope you understand that is the most safety purchasing system. Also, this purchase protection guarantees that the car is exactly as I described. In exchange, I will offer a 5 day trial period from the moment you receive the vehicle from the trucking company, in which you will have time to test-drive and inspect the car and review all the documents. This way you're not buying something sight unseen. Smooth transaction, fast, safe and secure; The shipping and handling costs are included in the price .. You don't have to pay for anything else; No hidden fees or taxes of any kind. It will come with a clear title, bill of sale signed by me as well and all the papers (including the original manuals and keys) that you will need to register it under your name. If you agree with this transaction I will need the following details from you:

full name and address:
shipping address:
phone #:

I know it can be hard to buy a vehicle that you can't see in person, so I will do my best to present it as well as I possibly can through pictures and accurate description.
If there is ANYTHING at all I can do to help you make your decision, please just let me know.

Here is a link to the website where I uploaded some photos of the car:

2006 BMW 750Li - $14500‏~LOL
This is wat this chick (Susan Rese - susanrese@gmail.com) replied in my inquiry

Hi,

Thank you for being interested in buying my 2006 BMW 750Li with 33,604 miles, Automatic Transmission, VIN: WBAHN83566DT63475. It is in EXCELLENT condition; the body and paint are great, no scratches and no dents; the interior is clean; it has never been involved in an accident; the title is clear.
My final price on it is US 14,500 $.
I just got divorced and I decided to move closer to my parents. Right now I'm located in Canada and the car is here with me. The car was awarded to me in our divorce. Being a single mother and not having a driver's license I decided to sell the car. As I'm unable to travel in the near future and I don't have anyone to help me with the sale I decided to make this transaction through a third party. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.
So don't get me wrong and don't take it personally but I would prefer to secure the deal through a third party. Also because the car will be shipped from Canada to US I prefer to work with a third party in order to keep the both of us safe in this deal. I will be assured you will buy the car and you will be assured that you will receive it! Basically the money will be sent to them and they will keep the money until you will receive the car and only after you will inspect and drive the car they will forward the money to me.
If you have other questions feel free to email.
Regards,
Susan

I have found that it is not limited to just cars, but to Motorhomes as well. trentdonovan10@live.com is the scamming seller, and he left this email regarding payment:
Hi again,

I must inform you that I live in Churchill,Manitoba and I have to let you know that right now I'm out of country with some business and the RV is garaged at the shipping company in Churchill,Manitoba. The web site listed the RV in the most important cities because I payed them to sell the RV as soon as possible.
Time is really an issue and we have to move fast, the low price is for a fast deal.

Here is all the details about this transaction.

PAYMENT
I signed a contract with eBay Company and they will make the transaction for me.They have a program called eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. This service allows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third part between seller and buyer.eBay Motors is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements, both parties must submit proof of payment/delivery presented in a legal form (payment/delivery receipt) by the registered payment/delivery service used. The payment will be sent to eBay Company and they will hold your payment until you receive the RV with all the documents. There will be a down payment and the rest of the balance after you receive the RV with all the documents.

SHIPPING
You will receive the RV by shipping through DAS Company. The RV will be insured in case of damage and it will be delivered to your DOOR.
I recently had a buyer and I went ahead and made the arrangements for the shipping and payed all the fees, but unfortunately, my buyer’s loan was not approved so I was not able to complete the transaction with him and I still have it ready to ship anywhere in Canada for free.( I will pay all the shipping taxes.)
I will send you the RV with all the papers (title, bill of sale, etc.)
The title is clear and clean,no lien,no loan on it.

RETURN POLICY
As soon as the RV arrive to your address, you will inspect it and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in maximum 5 days since the arrival date. In this case eBay Company will send you the full amount back in 24 hours and you will send the RV back to eBay and you don´t have to pay the return shipping.

If you want to start with this deal ,email me your full name, address and phone number for shipping and I will require those forms right now.As soon as I receive these information from you I will forward them to eBay Company along with the rest of the details in order for them to open a case regarding our deal and send you the invoice for payment and all the details about shipping.

buyer beware I guess.

I just filed a complaint with autotrader and IC3 ... here is the beginning of my 1st and better be only scam:

Hi, sorry for mailing you so late.

Thanks for inquiring about my 2006 Honda Civic.
The car has been well taken care of, always kept in the garage. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It has a clear title and it is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident.

The price is $2900 shipping included (only in US) because I recently moved back home in Canada and I don't have time to travel back in US to manage the sale. The delivery will take approx 3 to 5 working days (with insurance and 7 days return policy).
The sale will be managed only through eBay since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during online transactions, and only after you will receive the car, I will receive the payment; in this way we are both 100% protected.
To begin the transaction I just need a clear decision if you want to buy this or not and your complete name and shipping address. After that you will receive an invoice from eBay Motors that will tell you all the details you need to know about our transaction and also will give you the choice to proceed or not with the deal.

Here you can find more photos of the car:

Thank you,

I am so grateful for all of this information. My husband and I just recently got married and were looking into buying a car. We saw a posting on Craigslist that was "too good to be true". We were just about to make a payment when I researched the "VPP program" details and also came across this website. Everything stated in the example email was so similar to what this guy was telling us. So we thank you.

Below is email response to inquiry on Volvo XC90, disappointing someone would use war & death to benefit financially:

"Hi, I am emailing you regarding the 2004 Volvo XC90 T6 that I have for sale. The suv is in perfect condition , with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, specialsu marks whatsoever, never been involved in any accidents. The interior looks great (no smoking). It has 72,100 miles, automatic transmission, 4 Wheel drive. I have a clear and clean title for it , no liens or loans ready to be signed and notarized on your name. I'm selling my son's suv, who died in Iraq two months ago and I want to get rid of it asap because the sight of it makes me think of him often and often and the pain is too great . Put yourself in my shoes and you'll do the same (selling the suv of your dead son, no offense) !!! As you probably noticed, the final price that I want for this suv is $2890.
I'm located in Palm Bay, FL (the suv is here with me) right now because I got a new job here. I will make the deal only to eBay. I am a member of the eBay Buyer Protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I won't be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay ( full name, full address and phone number) so we can get things started.
Thank you,
Natalie Campbell"

Hi,
At this moment I am in a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. This mean that I do a special training program and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The truck is already at the shipping company in Great Falls,MT sealed and ready for the shipping. The shipping can't be a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. You will receive the truck along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more .Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program. The payment will be handling by eBay and you will benefit of 5 days inspection period (test drive) and the option to accept or reject the truck on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info and they will notify you about our deal.

About the same thing happened to me recently with two adds.
One was from a lady who claimed have moved from Memphis TN (where the car is) to Portugal with family. 2003 Honda Accord (about $10K value for $1800. I almost fell for it till I decided to do a resarch and found posting like yours. The other was from someone who claimed had the same car, but his was $2880. I replied to this latter one saying I would like to see the car and pay right there and then. He then stated he is from El Paso, TX (where teh car is) and would like to deal through eBay. He probably was thinking I would not travel there from Massachusetts. I emailed back saying that "coincidently, I scheduled to go to El Passo within two days in business that I would like to make arrangements for us to meet where I would see the car, probably pay for it and take it from there. He was responding to my mails right way, but never ansewred to my last one.
Something needs to be done to these scum bags.

I ran across a similar add on Autotrader.ca so it is moving up to Canada.

Here is the first response to my ad:
Hello,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my car.
The car is still available,I sell it at this price because i just finished the divorce with my husband.
When the divorce has finished i own this car. Now as a women i don't need it because i don't have driver license,
This car is in excellent working conditions, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions.
From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request ONLY secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services so both of us can be protected.
We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account for $20.000.
The final price that I want for this car is $9.689 CAD including shipping and handling.
You will make a 50% deposit directly to eBay motors and they will hold the money secure until you receive and inspect the car for 5 days. The shipping will start right after eBay will receive your deposit, and it is paid by me!
I will wait your answer(if you are interested to buy) very soon!
Thank you

And the second response after I asked to go and view the car:

Hi again,
The car is already at the shipping company in Montreal because i moved here after divorce. The car is sealed and ready for the shipping.
I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. I'm very busy with my job so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet. According with the eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it will work:
1. First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment.
4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the car to you. After you receive it you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the car.
If you will buy, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
5. If you will decide that you will not buy the car, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my car.
If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed.
Thank you,

I was almost scammed as well, here is my e-mail.

The vehicle is still available for sale and the asking price is US $ 1,800.Shipping is already paid and the vehicle is ready to go anywhere in the United States. The shipping arrangements have already been made before moving to Portugal.
The payment will be done through eBay. The financial part of this deal will be managed by them. They will be the 3rd, objective party involved in the transaction. This way you will actually pay for the vehicle after you will receive and test it, because eBay will hold the funds and release it to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery.
After the vehicle reaches your address you will have 5 days to test it. Within this period you have to decide if you purchase it or not. If you decide to take it you will have to contact eBay and let them know that, so they can release the payment to me. If you won't like it you will have to ship it back to me within the 5 days and eBay will refund you. The shipping back will be done on my own expense, but I am sure this will not be the case.
Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the vehicle and make sure everything is as agreed.
If you decide to buy the vehicle please provide me me your full name and the address where you want the vehicle to be delivered and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.
Looking forward to doing business!

I also ran into the same scam. I found a post about a 2004 Nissan Maxima for $2900 on craigslist. I knew something was wrong when I seen that it was supposively located in Raleigh , but when he sent me information through a email, he said he lived in Arkansas, and then on the EBay Invoice it said the car would be shipped from New York. His big mistake was in his email he told me he was currently in the US Air Force. My son is in the Air Force and when he did a national AF search on this so called "Jason Banks" he wasn’t in the records at all. On his fake invoice he actually put his real name and address as the eBay Motors Agent, who the money was supposed to be getting sent to. Be careful , watch out for Simon Tapia. Who claims he's someone named Msgt Jason Banks, in the US Air Force , currently stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base in AR . His email is jason.banks@nwcable.net

I had emailed a lady named claudia Tapipan about a 2006 Honda Accord that she was selling for $2500 I was asking and asking about how this deaL worked and after A couple of emails I informed her that I was not interested in the car because I thought it was a scam. She emailed me under the name Michell Rose from the ebay buyer protection plan program and told me she has a reserve with ebay of $10,000 and it all looks legit except for one thing the price of the vehicle compared to Kelly Blue book price in Kelly blue book the price is $14,000. Buyers beware always trust your first instinct wnd do not trust these people. I would like to know if there is a way to forward these emails to ebay to investigate or the police dept.

Here is another name to beware of: I just about got taken as well. Thought the deal was too good to be true so I googled scams on Craigslist and found this site. This is what he told me:

"The car is already at the shipping company in Largo ,FL and is ready to go.I have a contract with eBay Motors so this deal must go through them. I'm very busy with my job and I'm out of the town so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet.
Shipping will be done by DAS and it will take 3 to 5 days top straight to your location.
Here is how it will work:
1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay Motors.
3. After they will process your info, they will send you the invoice and the details on how to make the refundable payment.
4. eBay Motors will contact me and I will ship the car to you. After you receive the car you will have 10 days to test, verify and do whatever you need with the car. If you will buy, then eBay Motors will release the money to me.
5. If you will decide that you don't want the car, eBay Motors will refund you the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my car. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you.

Thank you,
Matt Steele"

Think I am being scammed also. Answered an add about a truck in auto trader. Got an email back that he just put it on ebay auto and I should hurry and buy at the price. He said the truck is in Indianapolis as he is based in quantico. I emailed back and said I am in Virginia and could meet him Have not heard back. Gave him my phone number and said to call me. No call. Deal is to good to true but was hoping as my truck has just been totaled and need a replacement.I even had to sign in to my ebay account to purchase. Have not sent any mony asw it said to do a bank to bank transfer. Could it be legit?? or how can I tell?

Watch out for ellentendell@hotmail.com

This person hacked my Craigslist account and was posting ads for too-good-to-be-true prices on new SUVs.

I Googled that email and there's cars listed all over the country for ridiculous prices.

Beware again.

People are asking all the time on here what they can do, who they can report this to. I was just on CL and I found this list:

Who should I notify about fraud or scam attempts?

* New! FTC Video: How to report scams to the FTC
* FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)
* FTC online complaint form
* Canadian PhoneBusters hotline: 888-495-8501
* Competition Bureau Canada: 800-348-5358
* Internet Fraud Complaint Center
* Software Piracy ( http://www.siia.net/piracy/report/)
* Non-emergency number for your local police department.

If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please email the details to "abuse@craigslist.org". Be sure to include the URL (or 10-digit post ID number) in your message.

Here's the URL: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

Almost made the biggest mistake today. Good thing I came across this blog before it was too late. I was almost scammed I had sent the money and everything but I called quickly and thank god I was in time and I'm getting a full refund. Definitely was too good to be true but seeing myself in a hot car was all I was thinking about. I should've known something was up when in the second email I received, the scammer had wrote a different name at the end of the message lol honestly I was lucky. Search at a nearby dealership never ONLINE

Hi,

I'm a petroleum engineer and I'm currently located on an oil rig and as much as I'd like to meet you and close the deal in person or sell it locally, this is impossible for me. That is why I decided to sell the car over the internet. In order for us both to feel comfortable with the transaction, I propose we close the deal through Ebay Motors, since they are the biggest and the most trustworthy online market place, under their Vehicle Purchase Protection Program (they will work like a third party in this transaction). Basically, it's similar to buying a car locally, the money will be sent to their holding account, and they will keep the money until you will receive the car. The price of car $4,000.00 includes all the shipping costs and insurance, so you won't have to pay any extra charges. The car is located right now in my garage in Bismarck, ND. I have a friend who works for DAS auto, so there won't be a problem arranging for a truck to transport the vehicle to your home address. I've planned to take a flight over to ND and start the shipping as soon as ebay will confirm me that the payment is in their custody. Otherwise I can not risk my job until I have a serious deal cause I've already passed through a bad experience last week. I will briefly describe the Vehicle Purchase Protection Program transaction steps so I can make things clearer for both of us:

1. Buyer and seller reach an agreement (price and delivery condition).
2. Seller sends all the details of the transaction to Ebay for registration.
3. Ebay will email us the forms on how to complete the transaction (invoice, payment details, buyer and seller protection policy)
4. Buyer sends the money to the eBay Motors holding account.
5. eBay Motors confirms to seller that the amount has been received.
6. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance).
7. Buyer receives the vehicle and has 5 days to inspect it.
8. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay Motors about the acceptance.
9. eBay Motors and eBay releases the money to seller.

If you won't like the car or if it is not as described, which I can assure you it won't be the case because it's a state of the art looking and working vehicle, it will be returned to me at my expense and you will receive a full refund from Ebay. I tried to be as clear as possible to be sure we are on the same page, I have to cover my side as well.

I need your agreement as well as your name and shipping address, so we can register the transaction with Ebay in order to receive their instructions step by step on how to complete the transaction safely. If you have other questions feel free to email me, I hope we can do business together.
Sincerely appreciative,
Kevin Barnes

I almost just fell for the same scam on craigslist. It was for a 2005 Jeep Rubicon white so do not fall for it. This is the email i recieved.

Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but because I received too many emails, I will explain all the details about the jeep and the transaction.
At the moment I'm stationed in Alaska, making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan with the U.S. Convoy.
The jeep is already at our Military Logistic Department form Fort Belvoir, U.S. Army in MD, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the jeep to your home. The shipping is free for you. Since the jeep is in a military base, with no access you can not go there and take it, only the Logistic Department can deliver it, because the jeep is in their custody.Shipping may take anywhere between 2 to 4 business days depending on the destination. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the jeep.
For the payment I would like to use eBay as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the jeep and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the jeep. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the jeep before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 10 days to inspect the jeep . If you decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for both of us.
I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will contact you about this you'll receive important guidelines + instructions from them. You ll be contacted by ebay in the next 24 hours. So just e-mail me and tell me if you received the payment invoice and how long will take till you proceed with the payment as eBay instructed you.
PLEASE NOTE!
If the jeep is not how I've described it, you have the unequivocal right to refuse acceptance of the jeep (return postage on my expense) and you are entitled to a full and complete refund of the jeep's purchase price. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered in front of your door.
Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.

Hope to do business with you soon!

The email that sent this to me was alex_beane@comcast.net.

Now there are buy it now auctions on eBay motors that state in the description "do not hit buy it now" and "do not try to contact me through ask a question". It states to only contact through an outside email address. They use the same photos of the same few cars all the time in different states using different eBay id's. Pretty sure some are other peoples accounts they have hacked into and some are new id's they set up for the scam. I keep busting them.

This is the email from a seller on Atlanta Craigs List Ad after I requested more information: Hello,
Thank you for your interest in buying my car. Let me tell you a few words about the car. It's a 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE, in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever, never been involved in any accidents. The interior looks great (NO SMOKING). It has 72,103 miles . It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name. The price is not negotiable , $2,360.00 is my last price.I sell the car at this price because I cannot enjoy it due to my job(I work as a dealer on a cruise ship) and I'm a single woman and I have nobody close who can use it.
All documents, including owner's manual, clear title and a bill of sale on your name will be provided along with the car. Also about payment and shipping I will use only eBay vehicle protection program so we can both be protected.I just need your full name and address so i can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).

The email address they used was

They claimed to be a woman who lost her husband in the war and that she was selling the car for $2650 on craigslist. Here is the email I received from them last:

Hi again,

Visit my web page for more photos with the car (you can also view there, the carfax report): http://2005hondaaccord.shutterfly.com/pictures/9
Right now I'm in the process of moving (actually I already relocated), and for personal reasons I need to make a quick sell (although I know the price is under the market). The car belong to my dead husband, he died while serving in Afghanistan, but I have all the documents needed for the sale (of course I'm the rightful owner).

Because I can't be there for you, I left the car at the shipping company's warehouse, sealed, ready to be shipped. The car is enlisted in the eBay VPP program so this deal must go through them. In accordance with eBay Vehicle Purchase Program terms, you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide whether you want to keep it or not. The car will be shipped free of charge (assured by the army) along with all documents, clean and clear title with my signature on it, owner's manual and keys.

Here is how it will work:

1. I will inform eBay that I have a buyer and ask them to start a new transaction with you.
2. They will ask you for the shipping details. After they process your information, they will send you an invoice with all the details on how to make a refundable payment.
3. After the refundable payment is made, eBay will contact me to authorize the shipping. The shipping will last maximum 4 days. From the moment you receive it, you will have 5 days to test and verify the car. All this time, your payment will stay with eBay in a non-interest account. If you decide to buy it, I will receive the payment from eBay. Otherwise, the car will be shipped back free of charge on your side and you will be fully refunded. If you wish to start the transaction, please reply so we can proceed.
I'll wait your response.

Thanks

WoW. I was tempted. but did some research before sending a payment for a 2002 Honda Accord seen on craigslist. Here is the email I got from Major Alicia Irwing.

Thank you for your interest in my car.

This is a 2002 Honda Accord EX, 4-cyl engine, 47,300 miles, Automatic, VIN 1HGCG66812A056231 , clean title.

Here you can find more pictures with the car: http://picasaweb.google.com/alicia.irwing/MyHonda?feat=directlink

The vehicle is in EXCELLENT condition; the body and paint are immaculate, no scratches and no dents; the interior is clean; it has never been involved in any kind of accident. The A/C is working very well.

I'm an US Air Force Maj. currently stationed in United Kingdom and the car is here with me. It was brought from US and it still has US registration documents, because I didn't register it here in UK, taxes are extraordinary high because the car has US specs. It makes more sense buying a used car from here, they are very cheap.
The shipping will take up to 7 business days and you will also have 10 days to inspect and test drive the vehicle from the moment it arrives at your place. I will handle shipping, we have military cargo planes leaving every week. There will be no extra or hidden taxes for you to pay since the car is still registered in US. In case you decide not to keep the car I'm responsible for shipping back costs.

As I'm unable to travel in the near future and I don't have anyone available back home to help me with the sale I decided to sell this car through eBay or craigslist. The transaction will be made entirely through eBay Motors escrow services and we'll both be covered.

"The final price is $1,200 including shipping from Europe to the US and delivery to your home address. You will have to pay some eBay taxes too, about $80, so it will come to about $1280 total. If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them. I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Thank you and have a great day

P.S. Sorry for the long email I have tried to touch all bases"

Hello there,

My name is Michelle Garcia and I'm glad to see your interest in purchasing my car. What I can tell you in a few words is that I am an individual seller, I am not a dealer and this is my first type of action on internet. I have a clear title and it is on my name.
It is still available and the price is $2,550.00 not negotiable. You should know that it has never been wrecked or damaged, the car is in excellent condition with only 32,000 miles. Non-smoker.The inside is clean, like new. Runs great, very smooth, meticulously maintained and it always has been garaged. All the manuals, and the original documentation comes along with the car.It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name.
I sell it at this price because I cannot enjoy it due to my job (I work on a cruise ship as a casino dealer). All documents, including owner's manual, clear title and a bill of sale on your name will be provided along with the car. I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions. So if you are interested please e-mail me back for more details about the transaction.
Thank you!

You must go and google "ebay motor scams" and you will find a lot of victims that have been scammed because they payed a deposit for a vehicle through ebay motors.the scammers use a false ebay motors they people say they are selling through ebay and they phone you sounding very legit. they even email you a "buyer protection email" to assure you that you are not being scammed. and when you pay your deposit you never hear from them again. Here is the email i received from the man "selling" a 2006 Corsa Utility for onlyR24000:

"Before I left South Africa I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence isn't necessary. The car is in their possession in South Africa , ready for delivery. You will have 10 days to test drive and inspect the car. So if you want to make this deal I need the following information:

your full name and address
shipping address(street,city,zip code)
phone #

Then I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will proceed the order. Ebay will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller.

Here is how this deal will work:
1. I will forward the details of our transaction to the eBay Buyer Protection .
2. They will process the paperwork and will email you the Payment Invoice and the transaction details.
3. You will have to submit the deposit ( 50% from the total amount so you can prove that you are a serious buyer), as instructed to one of the eBay agents.
4. The payment will be verified and if everything is OK, eBay will deliver the vehicle to your address on my own cost. The vehicle will be shipped insured to your location with DAS ( Dependable Auto Shippers www.dasautoshippers.com ).
5. After you receive it, you will have 10 days to inspect and test drive the vehicle (You will receive the car in 2 days).
6. If you accept the vehicle by confirming to eBay, they will release me the money (if not you will receive the full refund of the amount sent before shipping). They will then FedEx overnight the signed title to you and all the car documents that you need to register it under your name. If you decide to NOT accept the vehicle for any reason, they will refund your full payment price within 48 hours. They will then make the necessary arrangement to have the vehicle picked back up by the transport company"

Here is another scam. We found this truck online on the Southwest Florida Wheels Web Site for the Naples, Fl. Newspaper. It is a 2001 Ford F-150 Black Super Crew Cab Harley Davidson Edition with 28,000miles for $4,800.00. This person and me talked by email and she wanted to go through the Ebay Vehicle Protection Plan so both of us was covered for safety. So she kept wanting our full name and address but before I went for it I found this website and figured I should look up Ebay and see how to find out if it was a good transaction. Ebay advised me to ask for a Sellers ID# and to see the Vehicle History page on Ebay but I couldn't find the truck at all on ebay. So I emailed her back and requested the ID# and also mentioned I couldn't find the truck on Ebay or the Vehicle History page anywhere on there. I heard nothing back so I went to email her again and my computer was attacked withen 5 seconds with 21 virus'. The email she put the virus on and is also the sellers name is pamela-walker1@hotmail.com DO NOT OPEN THAT WEBSITE!!
So THANK YOU TO ALL FOR SHARING YOUR STORIES SO I WAS ABLE TO BE SMART AND FIND OUT FIRST THAT IS WASN'T FOR REAL. LESSON TO BE LEARNED...INVESTIGATE AND IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT IS.
Take Care Everyone!

After asking about purchase terms and leaving my phone number......

Hi again,

As I've told you, at this moment I am in Alaska in a military base. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or call whenever I want. The reason I'm selling this vehicle way below market value, is because I would like to help ease the burden of my sisters medical expenses, which she has acquired due to a serious illness.

The shipping will take 3 to 5 days and it̢۪s not a problem because I will have the vehicle shipped by an Air Force cargo plane so there won't be any additional shipping costs. Also I will arrange for a truck to transport the vehicle to your home address. You will receive it along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, 2 set of keys, full service records and more. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like eBay because I already prearranged the whole process with them. The vehicle is located in their warehouse in Anchorage (sealed and ready for delivery). The money must be sent first to an eBay agent and will be kept safe until the buyer receives and inspects the vehicle. I will offer a 5-day period to inspect the vehicle from the moment you receive it (and the option to accept or reject the vehicle on my expense), before I'll have your money. I think this is more than fair for both of us.

If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info to eBay and they will notify you about our deal. They will let you know what you have to do for the payment. Like this you'll be able to talk directly with them and ask all you want to know.

Regards

After providing my shipping info....

I have to inform you Anthony, that during next week my Squadron will be deployed to Spain. I just found out today. I'll be stationed on a military base in Sevilla, for the next month with my training program. So i would very much appreciate if you could send the payment to the ebay agent from Spain. I'll be leaving to Spain next week and this way i would be able to receive the money there. The vehicle will still be shipped from Alaska, so nothing has changed. The price is still the same. If you do that for me, I will also help you by sending the car as Gift and no tax/customs will apply on your end.

I already informed ebay about my deployment. They opened a case for us and they will let you know what you have to do for the payment. Get back to me as soon as you receive their invoice. You should hear from them within 48 hours.

Thank you!

I then received an email from eBay Motors (support@cgi3buyerprotection.com) with a semi-legit looking invoice with a followup email from the seller.

Subject:Re: Craigslist Posting ID 2185701934 - 2005 Audi A6

I've asked ebay to send the invoice to xxxxx@juno.com. Can you please check your email. It may occur that your
e-mail doesn't support HTML language. So please check all folders, junk messages too, the invoice may have ended
there because of the ever increasing filters of the e-mails nowadays.Get back to me once you receive it to let you
know what the next step is.If you don't hear from them in 5 hours let me know and i'll ask them to resend it.

Thanks

PS Check your junk folder for the invoice

I haven't responded yet. I found out it was definitely a scam before receiving the invoice from browsing the net. The sad part is this person is actually using a real person's identity. I googled "Sgt Miguel Duarte" and came across the actual person working out of the Air Force base mentioned in the add.

Thank you for your interest in my car:2007 Audi A6 3.2 V6 Automatic CVT Transmission .The car is accurate, corosion free, no scratches, no damage of any kind, was properly serviced and stored, all the manuals and the original documents, only 46,500 km,never been involved in any accident. The car is always garaged and rarely used, is registered in Canada and it has clear title. The problem is that I had to move with my family in United States where I got a new job transfer (i work as a doctor). I brought the car here with me with the intention of driving it but when I found out about the very high import duties and all the restrictions regarding registration and emissions tests here I've changed my mind and I've decided to sell the vehicle.I want to sell it in Canada because is still registered there.Total price with shipping included is $10,900CAD!I know the price is cheaper then normal on the market but I want to sell the car faster then usually and I assume that a lower price will be a good solution.

====================

Hi again ,
I am glad that you are really interested in my car.The total price for you with shipping included is $10.900 CAD(you don't have to pay any taxes or duties). This is the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): WAUAH74F67N113319 (is registered in BC)
As I already said in my first email the car is currently located in United States(Jacksonville, Florida) but still registered in Canada, so you won't have to pay any custom fees. For a major safety and insurance for this transaction we will use a eBay Motors Shipping Company which also manages the payment. Here's how it works:
-You will give me your full name, address and phone number
-I will open the case id to the eBay Motors company
-You will need to deposit only 29% from price to eBay Motors Company
-You will received along whit the car the bill of sale and the bill of lading, title and keys
- You will have 7 days to inspect the car, if you will lake the car , you will keep if not you will received the money back all the money and the car will be ship back in the same day. After you receive this info, you will have to make the payment to one of their agents so I can be sure that you are serious about buying and I am not shipping the car for nothing. The agent will keep the money in a trust fund until you receive the car and are satisfied with it.If the car is not exactly as described, you can send it back at my expense, and get a full refund of your payment. If everything checks out and you decide to keep it, you will pay the rest of the money to the eBay Motors company. If you wish to go on, please mail me back with your full name, phone number and shipping address so I can open the deal .I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible. Also, feel free to ask me any question you may have
Thank you for the great collaboration!

No offense but who would go for this? Is it greed that drives people to unbelievable deals? The best thing I think we can all do is what I have been doing for years. I lead them on thinking they have a fish on the hook and in this case even emailed them telling them I sent the money! I love getting them excited then when they email me asking where the payment is I swear I sent it Etc After I have wasted as much of there time as possible I sent the a Jokes-on You email. They get real nasty at that point and I just laugh having given them a dose of there own con job. If everyone did this we could drive these jerks nuts!!!!

I was interested in a 2003 Bmw Trike which was posted as $4,000 on motorcycle oodle.com. I was told to send $2,000 for a refundable deposit before they could ship the bike. He said he had PURCHASE PROTECTION thur eBay and had a $20,000 deposit on an eBay purchase protection account. It all looked legit even got to chat with an eBay sales rep. on the details of the deal. They said to Western Union the money and gave the address of an ebay agent. The guy selling the item was named Andrew Q. Leckner and he said he was in the Air Force in NJ
THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm in Florida, right now and I have been very busy. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying the car.Why is the price so low? I
am going trough a divorce, and I had to move in FL. So all that I want to do now is sell the car at this price, because I need to sell it fast (I already made a deposit
here to buy me another). The title is clean and you will have absolutely no problems to register the car.The car have 68,852 miles and automatic transmission. It is in
immaculate condition ,rust free ,no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. The interior looks great(NO SMOKING).This car needs nothing.I want this transaction
to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time at my disposal. I already have tones of emails so I hope you
understand that I need to sort them out. The price is $2,350.THIS IS MY LAST PRICE. I will not negotiate the price. Also, I take in consideration only those buyers who
are really interested in buying the car ,to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way,I shall be assured of the serious intentions. So if you
are interested please email me.

Regards!
Lavinia

and then

As I told you in my first e-mail, I am in Florida. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence isn't necessary. They will not give me any money until you receive and test the car .The car is at the shipping company, ready to be delivered. The shipping cost is included in the total price of the car!You have 5 days to test it and inspect the car. So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:
full name and address
shipping address
phone #
After I will have all this details I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will proceed the order. They will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.

Regards!

Responding to a Craigslist post today I wrote to: carter.daniell@yahoo.com
and received replies from: danielcarter1980@gmail.com

I have forwarded the following to Fraudwatchers, and am pasting for all of you to see:

Me: Is this car still available? The price seems incredibly low. What is the catch?

Daniel: The car is available to sale and the price is $1,600. The VIN # is JN1DA31D93T503548 and you can verify yourself on carfax, the title is clean. The car have 121,635 miles. My current location is in Portugal, my wife and I just moved here due our jobs. It might seem a low price and it is but for me is a good price because I cannot use the car anymore in the current location and the best option for me is to sell it where it belongs. So my lost will be your gain. The car is in Eastlake OH at the shipping company ready to be shipped anywhere. If you need more info about engine, pics, etc. just ask me. So if you're still interested, just let me know asap and we will discuss the transaction procedure.

Me: Wow, I live in Eastlake. Can I see the car today?

Daniel: Let me show you how this works:
1. -After you'll give me your full name and shipping address(where you want to receive the car),I'll initiate the transaction
2. -eBay will contact you with all info you need regarding shipping and payment instructions
3. -You will confirm the payment to ebay
4. -I will contact the shipping company to start the shipping(I'LL PAY THE SHIPPING COSTS)
5. -You'll receive the cars in front of your door with the bill of sale received from eBay.
6. -You'll have 5 days inspection period; after inspection period,if you are not satisfied, contact ebay and send the cars back, you will not be charged for shipping it back!
7. -If you decide to keep it ,just contact ebay to release me the funds, I will not receive any money until you have received and inspected the cars. This is the process. If you agree with these terms send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. They will send you the payment instructions and shipping details.

I am glad this came up in my Google searches. I found a 2006 Honda Goldwing for sale on UsedVictoria for the unbelievable of $2500!!! I was leary, but thought I should check it out. Sure enough, they are wanting me to send payment through a verified western union agent. The emails that the I got aren't exactly the same, but similar and eBay support says they don't use Western Union...so I have sent the emails to their 'spoof' department to check out. But really, if I had won a bike such as this, in a divorce settlement, why would I not try and get full price for it...even $10,000 would have sounded better. Thanks again for having this posted.

Looks like I am getting scammed the same way. 2003 Honda Goldwing for 2800.00 should be 10 to 20K they want to get my info and have ebay email me. I am waiting on the invoices now.

lmao these tools are not very cleaver (or maybe the people that fool for it are not smart )they tried it on me but if you go to the link you can not click any thing (not to mention that ebay.com is the correct address not all that rubbish they put on )Hello,

I confirm that the car is immaculate technically and aesthetically speaking.
I'm forced to sell it because I've just moved in Madrid, Spain with my job for a three years contract.
The car is located at a warehouse in Darwin,NT and from there will be delivered on my expenses. You will have 5 days inspection period, while you'll be able to get an independent report and further mechanical inspection.
The car was advertised on eBay as well and I will run the transaction only under their terms and conditions for our own protection.

If you want to know more about the eBay Purchase Protection Program read this link:

Kind regards,

P.S. The price may be less as this is a regretfully sale in need of money.

Inquired yesterday (May 8th 2011) about a car on Craigs list. Today, I received this email:

Hi, first of all I want to thank you for your interest in my 2007 Honda Accord LX. I sell it at this price $ 2.900, because i have just finished a divorce. I have it in Middletown,NJ because i live here. It has only 16000 miles. The car is paid off, clean title,i have the title in hand. The divorce finished 6 months ago and the Honda is mine now. After the divorce I was forced to buy a new house. Following the financial crisis I can't afford to pay the bank and i have decided to sell the car. My ex-husband bought it and has only been garage kept. As you can see from the pictures it is in excellent condition. It has many extras including a/c,cruise control, am/fm, trunk liner, spare is brand new, all manuals are included,2 keys, one of them has the remote buit in. I had the oil changed about 2 weeks ago. This Honda runs as good as a new one and has no dings, dents, or scratches. From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay. I prefer the payment to be done using e Bay services (I will receive the payment only after you receive and inspect the car and only if you agree to buy it). We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at e Bay and I have a purchase protection account. The last price for this is $2,900, no trades, only cash and only with ebay, because I cannot sell otherwise. I will pay for shipping and handling(the loan of my previous buyer didn't get approved and he paid the shipping costs) so there won't be any additional shipping costs).
If you are interested in buying it please let me know so I can initiate the deal through eBay.
I will wait your answer (if you are interested to buy) very soon.

Lisa Miller,Middletown,NJ

THEN THIS:

The car is at the shipping company and you will receive all the info from ebay. The shipping is free because was paid by my ex- buyer but he didn`t get the loan to buy my Honda, I will receive your money only after you test the car. You don`t have to pay any return shipping fees even if you don`t like the car.
please let me know if you are interested so ebay can send you the email with all the details that you need to buy the Honda.
i am waiting for your reply.
Thank you,Lisa

When I asked about this being a scam because I have no time for games because I really needed a car................guess what? Haven't heard anything since.

Beware.

May 2011 - I had been looking online and found a 2003 Honda Civic Lx for $1300 & 81K miles with the PennySaver. I was puzzled with the email response:

Hello,
Thanks for the Email in Regards to my Vehicle and my Vehicle is still available on sell,i am Mr Pedro Presently located in a country Call Cameroon for a Business project over here Why is the price so low?i am here for a business project and my Company has already propose for another Vehicle for my personal use so i wont be needing the car any longer. The title is clean and you will have absolutely no problems to register the car in the States. My 2003 Honda Civic EX Civic with automatic transmission it is in immaculate condition with 81,000 miles and have the , no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. The motor runs very well. The interior looks great(NO SMOKING)This car needs nothing, the title is clear ,it is not a salvage one. I want this transaction to go smoothly enough. So the car is Presently in New York at eBay motors shipping Company ready for delivery so they will have to be the ones handling the transaction since i am out of town but only if you shall understand and you won't make me loose time as it has already happened to me.
Here are all the photos of my car in the attachment below. The pictures are recent, and they were taken right before preparing the car for sale. The car is exactly as shown in the pictures The price is $1300.00 USD I will not negotiate the price.I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car ,to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way,I shall be assured of the serious intentions so get back to me asap .for the Next Step.

Now, even I know that a car shipped across the ocean gets rust and banged around on board a ship. Even the story doesn't hold ... er .. um .. water. A car from Africa? No problem registering? Yea, right. "... waste my time with endless discussions?" Red flags here big time.

So, I Googled "New York at eBay motors shipping Company" and found your site. I've reported this to the PennySaver, but would like to know what is the procedure in contacting the local police to investigate further ... if there is anything that is done for this at all?

I will have the SUV shipped from Alaska by DAS (the Tahoe has been crated and is ready for shipping because the loan of my previous buyer didn't get approved) so there won't be any additional shipping costs.

To conclude this deal in a timely manner, the financial part will be managed by eBay's Buyer Protection Program. They are acting like a third party in our deal. Which means that you will have 7 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the Tahoe.

ONLY AFTER you receive the Tahoe and inspect it (for 7 days) eBay will release the payment to me, this way we are both protected. If you are still interested and need more details, get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your FULL NAME and FULL ADDRESS where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
Let me know your thoughts,

Thank god I looked at this blog, I was almost scammed here are the e-mails I received. Very similar wordings:
HIThere, I'm asking $17,000 for this '07 Acura MDX TECH SUV with 87,851km's in black color. It's a Canadian vehicle and is in an excellent condition(Clear Title in Hand). I just got divorced and I decided to move(along with my daughter) closer to my parents. Right now I'm located in South Carolina and the vehicle is here with me. The car was awarded to me in our divorce. Being a single mother and not having a driver's license I decided to sell it. I am not in a position that allows me to travel and, because I wish to sell it as fast and easy as possible, I decided that the best way to let it go was online. I am not interested in taking a trade in with me to the dealership because I knew that would be a hassle. Because it's such a large transaction, and because the vehicle will be shipped from US to Canada, I will complete the deal only using an authorized 3rd party. I'm currently signed up for a protection program offered by eBay motors and I would like to close the deal through them. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this. Basically eBay motors will secure the funds until you receive and inspect the car. This way you will be able to inspect the vehicle before I receive any money from you and I know that you have the money and you are not just fooling around, hope you understand me.

If you like to receive more information about the suv, more details about the deal and hopefully if you want to continue please contact me.

Thank you for your time,
donna

Hey,
I have run into the same thing twice on Autotrader. monica.graves2000@gmail.com
as well as
selena.thompson@live.ca
have tried to take me for a scam. They have both posted unreal prices for newer cars. They then send you a fake "eBay invoice." They say to go down to western union and make the payment two a "safe eBay certified 3rd party." Don't do it. Its a scam. They say the car is perfect, and your money is held for a number of days for you to look at the car. The email address might be different, but if the story is the same you can bet it is a fake.

ATTN: sent by Vanessa Mathis (vanessamathis12@yahoo.com)
FYI: There is not a DAS warehouse in Helena Montana.
1st contact:
I am glad to know you're interested on my 2005 Honda Accord EX-L, I wanna get rid of this car as fast as possible.
I inherited the car from my husband who died in Afghanistan. He was a soldier in the army corps peacekeeping detached.
The Accord has been sitting in the garage ever since, collecting dust, didn't move it an inch.
My asking price is $3400. The car is in perfect condition though, 56000 miles and running great but each time I try to drive it it kills me and makes me cry...knowing how much he loved it and how much he babied it all the time makes me want to sell it even more.
You may think I'm a terrible person but right now I'm pregnant in 6 months and I've been forced to relocate... moved back to Dell City, TX.
I'm in no condition to travel, every time she moves my belly hurts and now my back is hurting.. I can barely walk..I was told this was coming and just before leaving Helena, MT I left the car with the shipping company (DAS) to be stored in their warehouse, sealed, ready to be delivered with all documents, clean and clear title signed by me, owner's manual and all the service records I could find with both sets of keys.
I've arranged so that shipping is free on your side, it's paid with a voucher issued by my insurance company to help me move but didn't use it because i didn't really have much to carry..
Get back to me if you are interested in purchasing and we can have a smooth deal.
Bellow you can find the options and features of the car together with more pictures:

Thank you!

We then requested to have someone look at the car in Helena.

Hi again,

Let me explain more about this:
The car is already at the shipping company warehouse ready to be shipped. It's enlisted in the eBay VPP program so this deal must go through them. In accordance with eBay Vehicle Purchase Program terms, you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide whether you want to keep it or not. The car will be shipped free of charge along with all documents, clean and clear title with my signature on it, owner's manual and keys. Here is how it will work:

1. I will inform eBay that I have a buyer and ask them to start a new transaction with you.
2. After they process your information, they will send you an invoice with all the details on how to make a refundable payment through bank transfer.
If you wish to start the transaction, please reply with your full name, full shipping address and a phone# so we can proceed.
I'll wait for your response.

Thanks

I would like to know how to expose and prosecute these people for just setting up a scam. Misspellings are always a major flag.

Thanx for the info, i was interested o buy a second hand car and googled 2ndhandcars4u.com website, i was interested in VW Polo that was advertised, I called the number that was given, number does not exist. I sent her mail enquiring about the car. She responded that she recently moved to UK, just got divorced, she is a verified trader the transaction will be done through Ebay. she needed my full name and address s she can start the procedure and also that there is a 10 day refund policy, that if i dont like the car i wil receive my money back. I replied requesting if it was possible to view the car, she said no as she is out of the country and that the car is in Port Nolloth which is in South Africa, where i am. I submitted my name and address and i received an invoice from e.bay-confirmation@live.com. I did some research and i asked if i can pay through Paypal, they responded that "the seller has a £10,000,00 deposit in an eBay purchase protection account and a 10 days refund policy is included. The car comes with insurance, keys, RWC, 8 months rego, full service history, logbooks, transfer of ownership, road and delivery insurance. You will easy transfer the car on your name. The car comes with the rego papers, clear title and there is no finance on it. No money owing on the item. The transaction is 100% safe ! Next step is to complete the payment via Money Gram ! You must go further and send the payment to our seller. The car will be delivered to your address in 2/3 days after the payment has been done". Can this be legit?

Thanks for having this blog up. I was pretty sure I was encountering a scam but I was thinking about sending my name and address knowing if they asked for money to be sent it was a scam.

Then I decided to save myself that step by doing the simple search on a word combination in the email and found this blog which confirmed my suspicion.

Mine was on craigslist. Being they are near my town I asked if it was possible for us to do the deal in my credit union. Their response totally ignored my question and lacked a personal feel which was tip off #1. I guess I'll report this to craigslist so someone one more eager and gullible takes the bait. Although I wish I could send it to someone to sting these people.

Perhaps I'll inform my local news station. But they probably have already done a story on this issue. Mine looked the same as most above except they were name-dropping AutoCheck.

I'll put it here just to add to the "Database" of sorts so if someone does a search on terms as I did the words they search may lead them here to learn the truth.

Anyway here it is:

Hello,

Thanks for being interested in buying my 1998 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6.The truck is available and here is the info: It is a 4X4 very rare truck super clean,non-smoker, no damages,no accidents, clear title, the engine runs very well, only 127,000 miles, engine 3.4L V6 EFI, manual, gasoline..
The price is not negotiable $2200 with shipping included. The financial part of this deal will be manage by AutoCheck. So if you decide to buy my truck you just need to send me your full name and shipping address so i can open a case (with no further obligation or fees)
Thank you for your time

Thank you so much for the blog! My husband and son are looking for an atv and we received this reply when we responded to an ad (the ad said it was in St Louis and since we are only 2 hours away, we asked if we could pick it up):

I'm in New Jersey due to my work (i'm an Air Force Msgt.) and i have the ATV here with me. I can deliver it to your shipping address (i will pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and i will agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In this 5 days you will test the conditions of the ATV. If something won't be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense. It will come with all the paper work.

The payment will be made after you will test and inspect the ATV.

The deal will go through eBay Motors. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well. A refund policy will be included.
If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and phone# so that i can forward them to eBay. They will send you a complete list with instructions.

I`m waiting for your reply as soon as possible.

Thanks

When we showed interest, we received this 2nd email:

I will contact eBay personaly with your information. When everything is ready, eBay will contact you with all the information. The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy and both of us will be protected, a full refund policy + insurance will be included so neither of us should worry about it.I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you .

Thank you for understanding!
-------------------
We then received the email from "ebaymotors" which looked very convincing and then these emails:

You have received the instructions from eBay- please follow the payment procedure exactly as describved there. All you have to do is to send the payment to ebay (ebay agent).Payment is verified and deposited into a trust account. After you will receive and inspect the item ebay send me the payment.

Shipping will be made in 12h after the payment is confirmed and you will receive the atv in max 4 days.
The atv will be insured for the total amount that we are dealing and you will have 5 days Return Policy. In this 5 days you will test the conditions of the atv .If something won't be like you expected to be you can return the atv without any expense and you will receive all your money back, immediately.

Also i will pay for the MoneyGram transfer fees so when you'll send the payment don't mention that you are paying for an online transaction, the fees for online transactions are with 30% higher than the fees for sending money to friends and relatives. You can tell them that you send the money to a friend. In this way we avoid to pay some extra fees. Please don't forget to fax the MoneyGram receipt to ebay fax # (469) 675-6217

I felt suspicious of the whole thing, especially when he wanted a money order. I still feel like a total fool for even sending him our name and phone and hope nothing comes of that. Thanks again for saving us from this scam.

I inquired about a car 2 days ago from "Cars.com" and the seller agreed too fast to ship at their own expense. Also, the Ebay email was recieved before I agreed to purchase. Here is the email so buyers beware!! Thanks for this blog, it was very helpful.

I'm selling this BMW because my child of only 23 died 2 months ago in a car accident, a drunk driver hit him and his fiancee. The car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that's the reason I want to sell it.
I travel a lot with my business and I want to make this deal through eBay Motors. I will take care of the shipping so don't worry.

If you have any questions or need more photos please e-mail me.
Thanks and have a good day,
Hi again,
I'm really sorry for you but we can't meet face to face because I'm at my son's house in Dallas Texas, trying to sell his stuff and eventually the house. The car is located here in Dallas at eBay headquarters, in the container, sealed and ready for shipping. You will have 5 days so you can inspect the car. Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will confirm your decision to eBay and only then they will re-route the money in to my account, but if by any reason, you won't be satisfied with the car you can return it back for a full refund of your money. You will receive the bmw with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc).
I have received your data. I will initiate the transaction through eBay and they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction (terms, buyer protection, payment instructions, invoice, etc.)

My reply was,
Just a few questions,

Can you send me a copy of the title?

Can you produce and send me the CARFAX?

Has there been water damage?

Are you the titled owner? I will need to verify the ID of the actual seller.

What happens if we reject the vehicle once we see it?

How can I reserve this vehicle at $2700?

You do not have this listed on Ebay. Do you plan to handle payment through PayPal?

Can I have a contact phone number?

Now 2 days later we have heard nothing. We will report this so the authorities can nab these bastards

found a 2000 nissan pathfinder on craigslist the otherday and was so stoked that it was only 2315.00! email goes as follows....."am in a currently stationed at Nevada Army National Guard. We are getting ready for Afghanistan. We are in the final stage of our training and we are not allowed to use the phone during this period. This is supposed to keep us focused on our trainings. I am only allowed to check my email few times a day. I hope you can understand that we will have to stick to email for now. The vehicle is here with me at the base but I’ve already made all the arrangements with DAS to pick it up from the base. DAS will also handle the title transfer for an extra $75.00. Being in the army has some advantages and one of them is the fact that I can ship it very cheap. I will pay for the shipping charges, as I’ve said in my first email. I think I can have it there in 3-5 business days.
I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will give a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. I have to fill out a form on eBay and I need the name that will go on the title and an address where you want the car delivered. Once I do it, eBay will email you all the details on this transaction and we can get the ball rolling." that emial deff. got me thinking SCAM ....we got the ebay massage and just as described, we where asked to ONLY send a money gram!
Mand "name" is harold coleman and his "ebay agnt's" name was Erol Humbleton. we looked up the address listed for both and found out that the "ebay"agnt's address was an apartment complex...then we saw this handy warning! so keep an eye out on harold coleman.....and again where can i report him!((btw we found our add on craigslist)

We almost got scammed yesterday on a to good to be true deal on a boat. The emails they sent were so similar to all the ones posted. The person claimed to be in the airforce and selling the boat so he could have money to finish his house. He refused to let us have a look at the boat, did not answer my questions about it and insisted we "start the process for shipping." We knew it was a scam almost immediately as they refused to let us have a look in person. This was on oodle (boat classifieds). I reported it to the company but have not heard back yet. I pray no one falls victim to this.

Here is how EBAY Buyers abroad get FREE STUFF

International Shipping Scam tolerated by EBAY BUYER PROTECTION

Here is how the Scam works

Seller place item on EBAY
International Buyer wins item and pays for item plus S&H
You print international postage and custom forms from EBAY and get a tracking number starting with two letters and followed by numbers
You Ship item thru USPS

LOOK AND BEWARE

USPS accepts item
Item makes it all the way to Jamaica NY, 11430 USPS Origin Sort Facility
NOW USPS Tracking number stops here
Tracking numbers that starts with letters do not require scanning or tracking by destination Country Postal Service
Item is now en route to destination

HERE IS THE SCAM

Buyer waits a couple of weeks
Buyer place a claim to EBAY RESOLUTION CENTER stating he did not receive item
even if they did receive the item in question
EBAY Resolution Center contact Seller to provide USPS Tracking Number
Tracking Number shows final destination as Jamaica, NJ USPS Origin Sort Facility
EBAY Resolution Center will never receive a tracking confirmation from destination and will never receive proof of delivery even if item has arrived to destination.
Case is closed in FAVOR of Buyer because tracking number can not be accounted for after Jamaica, NJ , USPS Origin Sort Facility
Buyer gets back FULL amount they paid plus S&H

Buyer Gets Items for FREE and All Money Back

Seller is out of Item and Money

EBAY Resolution Center answer to this is that Seller should have had the item insured and registered
EBAY Resolution Center do not control any part of the shipping process that is “ conveniently” located on it's website.
Tracking number is absolutely USELESS
EBAY BUYER PROTECTION will close claim on BUYERS FAVOR knowing this SCAM is HAPPENING
USPS do not have any mechanism in place for you to file a CLAIM for stuff sold internationally

Seller is SCREWED

Creatureunlimited Lost $39.45

DO NOT BE THE NEXT VICTEM

I just fell victim to this nonsense this week. I sent the invoice email to Ebay and they informed me that it is in fact a spoof email. Then I contacted Western Union and found out the person already picked up the cash. I'm out $2000 and this was money given to me by my mother to buy a car.

I saw an ad on craiglist for a 2004 Nissan Altima. I checked the carfax and thought "wow this is amazing and this person can't be lying about the state of the car." Three days later I decided to come online and search if this could be fraud since I was expecting the car yesterday. Now I need to contact the authorities and see what happens next. I'm beyond pissed at myself at the moment.

The emails were from Amanda and Joey Peterson. Don't trust them!

relocated in Europe and it is too expensive to import it here. It is still in Canada at a warehouse,
in Whitehorse YT ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents.
Because I am not able to close the deal myself, I want to use a third party to handle the sale. This
way we are both protected.
Let me know if you're interested and if you have questions.

Thank you"

Whitehorse in is Yukon, 5600km away from Montreal and when I told him that I want to see the car before purchasing it, Email 2:

"Hi,

Let me explain how everything works:
You have to make the payment to eBay Motors through Bank Wire Transfer. They will hold the money until you receive and inspect the vehicle. Once
your payment is confirmed, the shipping will be started in 24 hours, and will last 3-4 days until it gets to your address. You will have 14 days
for inspection from the moment the vehicle arrives at your address. If it is not like I have described it eBay will refund your payment in maximum
3 working days and the vehicle will be returned at my expense.
This way I know that you have the money and you have time to inspect it before committing to buy, knowing that I don't have access to the money. We
are both covered.
In order to initiate the transaction with eBay Motors, I need your full name, shipping address and phone number. They will contact you with further details.

Let me know
Thanks"

I reported the offer as Scam via Kijiji's website and they pulled it off.

There are such offers for smart phones as well, so be aware and buy only when you see what you want to buy!

Cheers,
Stan.

Hi there,

Thank you for the good advises. It happened to me with a Toyota Prius 2009 for 10,850$ offer posted on Kijiji Montreal. The guy said this in two emails.

Email 1:
"Hello,

This vehicle has absolutely no mechanical problem, the exterior has no scratches, rust or dents and
the interior is like new, no accidents.
The price includes shipping and handling . I am selling it because I've
relocated in Europe and it is too expensive to import it here. It is still in Canada at a warehouse,
