Jail Bait

Ed Alterman of MPH writes about drag racing all comers on Woodward Ave in his loaner Corvette Z06. He feels high and might "like Zeus", until some tunerz with N20 ruin his evening.

A word of caution: I happen to live near Woodward Ave., and you don't want to be caught drag racing, especially not at speeds approaching Ed's 120mph. There have been several street racing accidents in metro-Detroit lately, with grisly outcomes, and the police are taking a dim view of the activity.

The majority of vehicular television advertisements in recent years seem to emphasize speed and power. We see burn outs, power slides, "donuts" and cars being driven at extra legal speeds on twisty roads with little captions like "closed course". These messages are aimed at young males seeking to increase their machismo and sex life through possession of a powerful car or motorcycle. A little promotional time might be spent teaching courtesy and safety beyond just buckling your seat belt; except, I suspect the audience does not want to listen.
